Don’t Stop Job Hunting During The Holiday Season

December 17, 2018

The holiday season can get hectic, and people may stop job hunting because they feel like they are too busy, and employers aren’t looking. That’s far from the truth, employers never stop looking. Many businesses are searching for someone to start before the year ends, or right after the new year begins. Since many people stop looking, the holiday season makes for a great time to apply due to the decrease in competition. The holiday season is a great way to connect with old and new friends. Put yourself out there, and a job may come up. Get Hired Local is here to help you find a job, and this holiday season may be the time to do it.

Start Networking

The holiday season is full of parties and gatherings, so attend these in search of meeting new people. Get the word out that you’re looking for a job. The people you meet may have some tips for you, or have some knowledge about a specific field. You never know who you’ll meet, and the connections they may have. Be prepared when you attend these holiday social events. Have business cards with your Linkedin profile and other important information on it. You may just meet a great connection, so make sure you can tell them the field you want to work in and be able to tell them two or three ideal employers you may have in mind.

Don’t Be Afraid To Reconnect

It is important to get noticed and get your name out there when job searching. Reconnect with old colleagues and friends. Look at your Linkedin account and reach out to your connections. A message wishing them well for the new year is a simple way to remind them who you are, and can potentially get you noticed for a job they have heard about. Reconnect with old friends on Facebook. People can have hundreds of Facebook friends from high school and college, but how often do you keep up with them? Don’t be afraid to reach out to some people and see how they’re doing. This can reunite some old friendships, which can lead to more networking. Go out and make plans. Meet with old friends, you never know where a connection can come from.

Use The Holiday Spirit as an Advantage

The week between Christmas and New Years can be the week you get hired. During this week many people will take off from work, but that doesn’t mean the business isn’t still running. This week is laid-back and dedicated to planning for the new year. The mid-level managers are usually left in charge, and there’s most likely no meetings or big projects going on. This is the perfect time to send emails and call the businesses you want to work for. You’ll be surprised to find that most people have some free time and are still in the holiday spirit.

Job hunting can be tough, and it might take some rejections to find the one that is right for you. Start your search this holiday season out the right way. To find jobs in Greenville NC, check out our listings on GetHiredLocal.com.
