Having your resume properly formatted with correct grammar usage and clearly listed experience will be crucial in submitting a competitive application. Without ensuring your resume complies with these elements could ruin your chances at landing the job. Any resume that is hard to read, confusing, or riddled with errors will undoubtedly find itself in the trash. Being clear and concise will want to be your main focus of the resume; make sure to avoid dense paragraphs of text and rambling.
Choosing the Right Template
When beginning your resume, there are a few different types that you can choose from depending on which will best suit the job you’re applying for. Among these resumes are the chronological, functional, combination, and targeted resumes. Choosing the right resume for your potential job will be really important. You want your resume to be as easy to read as possible, so making it extremely legible is a must. This means you will need to use a standard writing font such as Times New Roman in 12-point font. Print your resume on white or cream-colored paper; using brightly colored paper for your resume is unprofessional and very distracting.
Remain Consistent
Format consistency and continuity will be crucial in creating your resume. For instance, if you use a certain type of block or bullet points to highlight achievements, that form of highlighting needs to be used throughout the rest of the resumes highlights and achievements. So, if you use diamond bullet points for the first achievement, make sure you use diamonds for the rest of the points and not something like circles. It’s also extremely important to stay focused on the topic at hand and not trail off in your paragraphs; less is more.
